Many students can be very successful in the group class environment, due to the motivation of healthy competition with their peers and the musical value of learning how to listen and play duets with musicians at their own level.  Although group classes do not have the advantage of tailoring the learning style to each individual student, as does private instruction, sometimes group instruction works better than private with certain learning styles and preferences.  Whether a child, teen, or adult, a student should consider whether they would benefit from the social and motivating aspect of the group environment.
