Education Mr. Angelito Agcaoili holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from Arizona State University, Master of Music from East Carolina University, and a Bachelor of Music from University of Santo Tomas. Mr. Acgaoili also completed guitar performance studies at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Musica in Madrid, Spain as well as participated as an active performer in masterclasses and workshops of world renowned guitarists David Russell, Leo Brouwer, John Williams, and Jose Tomas.
Experience: Mr. Angelito Agcaoili’s teaching experience is varied across all levels and ages, causing his pedagogical approach to be very flexible toward any student.Mr. Agcaoili taught collegiate music courses and guitar at the University of Santo Tomas, Santa Isabel College and St' Schlastica's College (all in Manila, Philippines) from 1986-1990. He also served as a teaching assistant at the East Carolina University and Arizona State University. Since 1996, Mr. Agcaoili has been on the music faculty at Arcadia Music Academy in Phoenix, AZ. As an active recitalist and concert artist, Mr. Agcaoili has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in the Philippines, Spain, Canada, and the United States and currently maintains a busy performing schedule in the Phoenix metropolitan area. Mr. Agcaoili has completed pioneering research on Philippine guitar music as well as premiered the guitar works of renowned Filipino composers, many of which were either commissioned by him or dedicated to him.
His CD La Guitarra Filipina, the first recording to feature all original guitar music by contemporary Filipino composers, was favorably reviewed by the Journal of the Guitar Foundation of America, the Classical Guitar of the United Kingdom, and Gendai Guitar of Japan. Mr. Agcaoili’s performance abilities have earned many recognitions: first prize winner at the Concurso de Guitarra del Centro Cultural de España en Manila, third prize and honorable mention at the National Music Competitions for Young Artists, and scholarship awards through the Agencia Española de Cooperacion Internacional and from the Young Artists Foundation of the Philippines. Life background: Although Angelito was born in the Philippines, since 1984, he has lived mostly in Spain and the United States. Angelito speaks several languages, including English, Spanish and Filipino.
Alan Pongetti Private and Class Guitar Instructor
Education:
Mr. Alan Pongetti earned the honor of Special Student in Graduate Guitar Studies from the prestigious Peabody Conservatory of Music. Mr. Pongetti was awarded his Bachelor of Music Degree in Guitar Performance from DePaul University after also studying two years of classical guitar at University of Southern California.
Mr. Pongetti holds several music education certifications: Post Bachelors Certification in Major Secondary Education; Standard 7-12 Arizona Secondary Certificate; Music K-12 Endorsement; Structured English Immersion K-12 Endorsement; and Music Orff Level 1 Certificate.
Experience:
Mr. Alan Pongetti has six years’ experience teaching music in both private and public schools in Arizona. During that time, he has been involved in the pedagogical areas of guitar, choir, piano and general music. In addition, Mr. Pongetti worked as an educator for Catholic, Lutheran and Hebrew schools in the Phoenix metropolitan area and has also taught for the Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation. He is a current member of the professional associations Phoenix Music Teachers Association and the Guitar Foundation of America.
As a professional musician, Alan has performed for countless weddings, private parties and corporate events in the Valley as well as in Sedona and Prescott. He has also shared his performing abilities in school concerts, fundraisers and summer activities for the benefit of the students and staff.
Life Background:
During his stay at Peabody Conservatory, Alan enjoyed the opportunity and privilege of studying under the renowned classical guitar teacher Aaron Shearer. In his spare time, he likes going to the Phoenix Coyotes hockey games, playing billiards, and attending various concerts and movies.
