Fun, Engaging Lessons

We believe in fun and engaging lesson experiences. One-on-one lessons help students develop their skills with a range of fretted string instruments, based on personal skill level and individual needs. We teach students a strong foundation in technique and give them the tools they need to navigate the fretboard and play music they enjoy. Be it online, in person, or a combination of both, we will set up a lesson plan that works for you!

Teachers Who Care

Our teachers care about the music growth of each student. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced level student, our teachers have the ability to bring your music ability to the next level. At Scottsdale School Of Music, our teachers are determined to help you grow!

Scottsdale, AZ Guitar Lessons For All Ages and Skill Levels

Our guitar, bass, and ukulele teachers enjoy working with the diverse group of students here at Scottsdale School of Music. We have young children, high school students, young professionals, and retired adults visiting our studio on a weekly basis, and we have experience working with students at each level.

Beginner Guitar Lessons in Scottsdale

Even if you’ve never held a guitar or ukulele before, you’ll be amazed at how quickly you can start to make music. We can teach you some basic chords like A minor, E minor, C major, E7 and more, and you’ll have enough knowledge to chord along with popular songs. We will also introduce you to finger picking, transposing, scales, and how to play melodies while accompanying yourself.

Guitar Lessons For Intermediate and Advanced Students

Whether you started as a beginner with the guitar teachers here at Master Keys Music Academy, or if you already have years of guitar study under your belt from elsewhere, we can help you break through your current skill plateau. For some guitarists, that means learning how to write and perform your own guitar solos (or whole songs). Or perhaps you want to learn how to improvise on the blues scale or play a different genre, like baroque music.

Our teachers perform at a high level, and they can help you improve by playing duets with you, modeling new concepts, and providing practice strategies for you to work on at home.

Guitar Fundamentals To Suit Any Musical Genre

We don’t simply help our students learn to play scales or chords depending on their genre preferences. We can help you read notes, understand music theory, read chords, play advanced fingerpicking or sweep picking patterns, sight read Bach, write music, and so much more. We want you to feel confident playing funk, rock, jazz, classical, and any other genre you have in mind.

To get started with lessons on the ukulele (kids), guitar, or bass, please get in touch! We would love to start you with a trial lesson and help you reach your goals on the guitar.

Some Guitar Lessons FAQs

What Are Some Skills You Should Expect to Learn in the First Few Months of Guitar Lessons?

At first, you’ll learn the foundational elements of guitar playing. This includes holding the guitar, correct hand position, picking, and basic strumming patterns. As mentioned above, you’ll also learn some basic chords – these will allow you to play a number of songs and patterns in relatively short order. We’ll also introduce guitar tablature, and if you move quickly, we can introduce suspended chords, V7 chords, and more. You will also start to practice your scales.

Of course, we recommend that you express your particular guitar interests to your teacher! If you love the blues, we’ll focus on pentatonic scales and bending techniques, for instance. Or if you’re a rock aficionado, we can talk about power chords and basic riffs – it’s all about what inspires you to practice.

Can I Start Learning on an Electric Guitar, or Should I Start With Acoustic?

Beginners typically start with an acoustic guitar, and that’s simply because the size and parts are standard, and you can even use our in-house instruments for your lessons. Logistically, it’s simpler because we don’t need to hook up to amps. But once our students start to play genre-specific music, it’s not uncommon for a student to bring his own electric guitar to lessons. At the beginning, you’ll be learning the fundamentals of the instrument, not playing around with distortion or electric guitar-specific techniques.

How Often Should I Practice Guitar At Home If I Want To Improve?

A little bit of practice every day is the best way to become fluent in new guitar techniques. Your teacher will assign you exercises, drills and music to work on, along with specific instructions (like how many reps to do, and how to do them). If you follow these instructions, you will show significant improvement each week. If you try to “cram” for 2 hours the day before you lesson, you will not show sustained improvement.

Do I Need To Have Any Books? What Methods Do We Use?

Our guitar teachers are both experienced teachers and performers, so they take each student on a case-by-case basis. We will recommend different methods and learning materials depending on your musical preferences, or what you want to get out the guitar. We have a deep knowledge of teaching methods and materials, so we can recommend the perfect material for each student.
